High School Invite (April 6-7, 2013)

At this team race regatta, over spring break, we had a team made up of three JV/Varsity sailors and three club sailors.  Races were held at Belmont Harbor and the wind was shifty both days.  Saturday was windy making for great conditions to  complete a  full round robin.  There was slim to no wind Sunday, with 180-degree shifts being normal.  The Loyola sailors finished 6th overall.  Sailing for the team:
Annie Conway, Blythe Chesney, Fin Elliot, Isabel LeCompte, Mitchell Lee and Zach Miller

Ice Breaker (March 23-24, 2013)

The Ice Breaker Regatta held at CYC Belmont literally began with the race committee breaking the ¼” ice in order for us to start sailing on Saturday.  Conditions were great for sailing, but chilly at 32ยบ.  The forecast for Sunday was supposed to be snowing and breezy, but it turned out to be a nice day with medium breeze.  Loyola fielded three teams with most of the JV and Varsity members being able to compete.  Loyola finished in 6th, 9th and 10th place overall.

Culver Invite (September 22-23, 2012)

On September 22nd Loyola headed to Culver Invite with a total of 23 sailors. Everyone packed into cars and headed to Indiana. The weekend was full of fun sailing!  The first day everyone sailed well and we held our own in tough conditions. On the second day, though the weather was not agreeing with us, we still got some great sailing in. Mitchell Lee and Julianna Lee were at the top of the fleet in A the whole weekend taking home 1st place in A Fleet.

Halloween Regatta (October 27-28, 2012)

At the Halloween regatta in Lake Forest, Loyola dominated. We brought 29 sailors to Lake Forest, having 2 teams in the Varsity division. The first day was windy and cold but everyone toughed it out and sailed well. At the end of the day Loyola was in 2nd overall. Unfortunately we were unable to sail on the second day due to extreme wind. Loyola finished placing second in both the JV and Varsity placing. Pat Griffin and Cat Yardley finished 2nd in the JV division. Mitchell Lee, RJ Porter, Annie Conway, and Clare Perry ended up 2nd in Varsity.

Autumn Classic (September 29-30, 2012)

Our 4th regatta of the season, the Autumn Classic regatta, was hosted at Chicago Yacht Club's Belmont Station this fall. All twenty teams that competed in this regatta were from different schools - a huge accomplishment for MISSA. Shifty winds on Saturday, made the course challenging because it continued to change but a full eight races were completed in each division at 4-8knts. It was a beautiful day. Sunday brought some cooler temperatures and a little more chop, to bring the total number of races to thirteen in each division. Overall, Loyola B with RJ Porter as the skipper and Julianna Lee as crew consistently got top 5's with one or two that threw off their score - finishing 4th in B. In A, Mitchell Lee and Clare Perry finished 5th in their division with scores ranging from 5th to mid fleet over the two days. Pat Griffin and James Kinzel also sailed this weekend. Overall, the team finished 3rd at the regatta behind Ignatius and Minnetonka. Great work Ramblers!

Coast Guard Regatta (October 13-14, 2012)

The Coast Guard Regatta is a regatta that Loyola Academy has been invited too over the past four years. This fall, George Ernst, RJ Porter, Mitchell Lee, Clare Perry, James Kinzel, and Julianna Lee flew to New London, Connecticut to compete against twenty-one other high school teams over the weekend in both FJ's and 420's. On Saturday, A Division started in 420's and B division sailed in FJ's. Light wind caused a race to be abandoned in the morning, and after lunch the wind picked up to 8-12mph SW. Loyola did not do well Saturday in either fleet, but once A switched to FJ's and B switched to 420's, things started looking a lot better for Loyola Varsity on Sunday. The winds were gusting up to twenty-five mph at the top of the course, and hiking was very necessary. Loyola ended sunday getting several top 5's and 13th place overall. Great comeback, and a great experience for the team!

September Scramble (September 15-16, 2012)

First off, this regatta definitely lived up to its name, the scramble, and it was a miracle there was even a regatta during the weekend.  In fact, there were wind issues, and a few delays because of the lack thereof.  The team travelled via the Conway-Miller-Gambacorta-Lee caravan while the Griffin and Porter family comfortably housed our 32 sailors.  Loyola A placed 3rd overall with Mitchell Lee and Clare Perry finishing 5th in A Fleet and  RJ Porter and Jullianna Lee finishing 2nd in B Fleet.
