Fall 2013 MISSA Rankings

The fall season has come to a close with Loyola ranked 3rd out of 32 participating high schools in the Midwest district. Congratulations on a season well sailed!

MISSA Great Lakes Championship (November 16-17, 2013)

Loyola’s Varsity team sailed close to home at Monroe Yacht Club, Chicago.  Sailing was a workout Saturday with winds steady around 20mph.  The wind kept building through the weekend, and no races were sailed on Sunday.  They managed to sail 6 races on Saturday ending just after sunset.  The team finished 2nd overall.

Shepherd Championship (November 16-17, 2013)

The Shepherd Championship, held at Columbia Yacht Club in Chicago, is a JV event.  The first day the wind was blowing around 15 increasing throughout the day. Small waves started to build as the wind speed increased and the temperature stayed about the same all day. We managed to get 6 races off for each division Saturday. Sunday, the wind had sped up overnight and was blowing about 23. We rigged the boats and right before they sent us out, the regatta was called. Loyola had been in first but was forced to withdraw from a B division race which moved us down to 4th overall. Placed 2nd in A division, 5 points behind the division leader, Evanston. All-in-all, fun weekend.

Atlantic Coast Championship (November 9-10, 2013)

Members of the Loyola varsity team competed in Annapolis, Maryland.  They, along with two other Midwest sailing teams, were invited to sail in the Atlantic Coast Championship regatta.  The competition was strong with many great sailors.  The conditions were tough with shifty wind and a minor current.  However, the weather was nice and sunny both days with more wind on the second day of races.  Loyola finished 7th out of 18 teams.  Participants were Finn Elliott, George Ernst, James Kinzel, Mitchell Lee, Clair Perry, RJ Porter.

Halloween Spectacular (October 26-27, 2013)

Hosted at Lake Forest, the Halloween regatta is always a fun event that includes a costume contest.  Loyola brought two teams for the Varsity division and several teams for the JV/Club division. The weather was warm and there was great wind making for excellent sailing conditions.  Loyola’s varsity team was in 3rd after the first day and sailed a great second day to pull them up to a 2nd place finish.

Art Johnson Invite (October 19-20, 2013)

Two teams traveled to White Bear, Minnesota.  The conditions were cold, and it hailed both days.  This made conditions challenging on top of shifty wind.  The team sailed a great regatta and finished 2nd overall.
