Autumn Classic (September 29-30, 2012)

Our 4th regatta of the season, the Autumn Classic regatta, was hosted at Chicago Yacht Club's Belmont Station this fall. All twenty teams that competed in this regatta were from different schools - a huge accomplishment for MISSA. Shifty winds on Saturday, made the course challenging because it continued to change but a full eight races were completed in each division at 4-8knts. It was a beautiful day. Sunday brought some cooler temperatures and a little more chop, to bring the total number of races to thirteen in each division. Overall, Loyola B with RJ Porter as the skipper and Julianna Lee as crew consistently got top 5's with one or two that threw off their score - finishing 4th in B. In A, Mitchell Lee and Clare Perry finished 5th in their division with scores ranging from 5th to mid fleet over the two days. Pat Griffin and James Kinzel also sailed this weekend. Overall, the team finished 3rd at the regatta behind Ignatius and Minnetonka. Great work Ramblers!

Coast Guard Regatta (October 13-14, 2012)

The Coast Guard Regatta is a regatta that Loyola Academy has been invited too over the past four years. This fall, George Ernst, RJ Porter, Mitchell Lee, Clare Perry, James Kinzel, and Julianna Lee flew to New London, Connecticut to compete against twenty-one other high school teams over the weekend in both FJ's and 420's. On Saturday, A Division started in 420's and B division sailed in FJ's. Light wind caused a race to be abandoned in the morning, and after lunch the wind picked up to 8-12mph SW. Loyola did not do well Saturday in either fleet, but once A switched to FJ's and B switched to 420's, things started looking a lot better for Loyola Varsity on Sunday. The winds were gusting up to twenty-five mph at the top of the course, and hiking was very necessary. Loyola ended sunday getting several top 5's and 13th place overall. Great comeback, and a great experience for the team!

September Scramble (September 15-16, 2012)

First off, this regatta definitely lived up to its name, the scramble, and it was a miracle there was even a regatta during the weekend.  In fact, there were wind issues, and a few delays because of the lack thereof.  The team travelled via the Conway-Miller-Gambacorta-Lee caravan while the Griffin and Porter family comfortably housed our 32 sailors.  Loyola A placed 3rd overall with Mitchell Lee and Clare Perry finishing 5th in A Fleet and  RJ Porter and Jullianna Lee finishing 2nd in B Fleet.
