Shepard Championship (November 10-11, 2012)

Taking place at the wonderful Columbia Yacht Club downtown, the Shepherd regatta proved to be an interesting weekend for the Loyola teams.
Day one could not be described as anything less than good fall
sailing. The breeze picked up through the day, however, and it all
resolved with a beautiful sunset over the city. Team Griffin2 did well
most of the first day. Pat Griffin and Cat Yardley opened the weekend
with a 2nd and Tom griffin and Diana Perez followed with a string of
2,2,1, and a DNF which ultimately caused the 4th place rather than the
first they would have been in. There is a great race behind DNF, but
some stories are better left untold.

The second day was hectic; it was very windy, and ultimately the
regatta ended without any more racing. On top of all this, the fire
alarm was pulled and everyone was forced to wait outside. It was still
a great regatta to end on, Tom Griffin and Diana Perez got third in B
fleet.  Team Griffin2  finished in 4th place overall.

Great Lakes Championship (November 10-11, 2012)

On Saturday the winds were out of the South and were very shifty.  Unfortunately on Sunday the sailors were not able to sail because there was too much wind.  There were a total of 4 races, on Saturday, in all three divisions.  RJ Porter, Clare Perry, Julianna Lee, and Tip Flocco placed 9th in A.  Mitchell Lee, Annie Conway, and George Ernst placed second in B.  Fin Eliot placed 9th in lasers,  Team finished 5th place overall.  The regatta was a great way to end the fall sailing season.

White Bear (October 20-21, 2012)

Loyola sent three teams to White Bear, a small inland lake just outside of Minneapolis.  We arrived on Saturday to fog and cold temperatures, with nearly windless conditions.  After several hours of waiting, we began sailing in low, shifty conditions.  It was a tough day.  On the second day, the wind picked up, but the difficult, shifty conditions continued.  Even though the higher winds brought improved sailing, it was still a tough day.

Cressy Qualifiers (September 22-23, 2012)

This year, the Cressy Qualifiers were held on Lake Minnetonka, out of Wayzata Community Sailing Center.  Cressy is a Laser only event split into standard and radial divisions.  Jimmy Moriarity, George Ernst and Tip Flocco sailed standards.  Fin Elliot and RJ Porter sailed Radials.  Out of each division, the top two qualified.  The first day saw medium winds around 10 knots, with plenty of shifts.  George capsized at the beginning of the day, and kicked a foot shaped hole in his centerboard trying to right the boat.  RJ had an outstanding day, and sat in second, looking to qualify. The second day had the same conditions as the first, and after a hard day of racing, RJ failed to qualify, and finished tied for third.  This was a disappointing end to his outstanding weekend.

Kick Off Classic (September 8-9, 2012)

The regatta was hosted on home waters at Sheridan Shore.  The wind was heavy and the waves were big both days, making for great sailing conditions.  In the 420 division there were 20 teams in total, three of them were Loyola.  One team placed 6th, the other two placed 17th and 18th.  There were 21 lasers, 11 in radials and 10 in full.  Loyola had 4 lasers in total.  The regatta was a great way to start off the fall season.
